Beaker or water glass by Lobmeyr, Vienna in the style of Josef Hoffmann.
Lobmeyr Vienna
This beaker from the Viennese glass manufacturer J. & L. Lobmeyr likely dates back to the famous Black Bronzite Var. F drinking service, designed by Josef Hoffmann in 1910/1911.
Hoffmann's work is influential for the clear, geometric design language of the Wiener Werkstätte and, at the same time, stands in the tradition of early Art Deco aesthetics.
This example was meticulously handcrafted in 1984 by Robert Balluch, master engraver at Lobmeyr. The finely engraved stripes and oval incisions illustrate the precise combination of constructive ornamentation and masterful glass engraving—an expression of the high technical and design standards for which Lobmeyr has been known since the 19th century.
As a collector's glass, this piece is a testament to Austrian design history: it is of particular interest to both collectors of historical glass and enthusiasts of Wiener Werkstätte design objects.
