Bohemian Crystal Liqueur Service, circa 1920
This elegant Bohemian crystal liqueur service includes a bulbous carafe with a faceted stopper and six matching tumblers. Particularly noteworthy is the geometric decoration in Schwarzlot painting, which unfolds a clear, stylized ornamentation with circular, square, and leaf motifs.
The design language points to the influence of the Wiener Werkstätte and the Cubist-Geometric movements of the interwar period. Such services were created primarily in the 1920s in Northern Bohemia (Gablonz / Haida region), a major center of European glass production. There, traditional craftsmanship was combined with contemporary design.
With its clean lines and abstract ornamentation, this Art Deco-style service is associated with the avant-garde in Vienna and Prague. It is thus a characteristic example of high-quality collectible glass of the early 20th century.
