Art Deco Toilet Set, attributed to Karel Palda, circa 1930
Elegant Art Deco toilet or boudoir set consisting of a perfume bottle and powder compact made of colorless crystal glass with geometric black enamel decoration. The bottle's stopper is faceted, and the compact has a gently domed lid.
The combination of Cubist-inspired decoration and precisely cut surfaces gives the ensemble a striking, modern look and is characteristic of Art Deco from the 1920s and 1930s.
Pieces like these were produced particularly in the Bohemian glassmaking centers of Haida and Jablonec nad Nisou and are stylistically close to the work of glass designer Karel Palda. Palda, one of the most important representatives of Czech Art Deco, combined artisanal precision with industrial aesthetics in his work.
A representative example of modern glass design that combines function, ornament and luxury in typical Art Deco style.
