Artist Plate No. 3, designed by Eugen Gomringer for Rosenthal in 1974 with the inscription "The simple way is simply the way" is a striking example of the artist's clear, reduced, and yet profound language: language becomes image, typography becomes composition.
The Gomringer porcelain plate combines poetry and design and is therefore a central piece within the Rosenthal Editions for collectors, design enthusiasts, and fans of concrete language.
Eugen Gomringer – Founder of Concrete Poetry and Rosenthal Artist
Eugen Gomringer (1925–2025) is considered one of the most influential poets of the 20th century and the founder of Concrete Poetry in German-speaking countries. His texts reduce language to its essentials: word, form, and space. With this radical clarity, Gomringer created a literature that can not only be read but also seen. His famous poems, such as "Avenidas," made made him internationally known.
Gomringer was not only a poet, but also a professor of aesthetics, founder of the Institute for Constructive Art and Concrete Poetry in Rehau, and an important mediator between art and the public. His works are represented in international museums and collections and represent the aim of bringing art and language into everyday life.
A key milestone in his career was his tenure as Cultural Director at Rosenthal (1967–1985). During this time, he decisively shaped the company's cultural orientation and brought renowned artists together with the porcelain manufactory.
