Art Déco Table Lamp, Charles SCHNEIDER

Description

Signed Art Deco lamp from Charles Schneider, Epinay-sur-Seine.

This elegant Art Deco table lamp was designed by Charles Schneider in the 1920s. Its distinctive lamp body is made of frosted glass with a finely etched pine decor, signed "Schneider" – the hallmark of the French manufacturer.

The slender base rests on a heavy, forged iron base, which optimally showcases the warm light of the glass. The round base provides stability.

In addition to its high-quality design, the lamp also offers stylish ambient light – ideal as a decorative bedside table or office light.

A rare collector's item: signed, in its original condition, and in the tradition of the Schneider brothers' early 1920s glass art, available from ART FLAGEY Kunsthandel Berlin.

About the manufacturer:

Charles Schneider (1881–1953)

Charles Schneider was a leading French glass artist and entrepreneur of the Art Deco period. Together with his brother Ernest Schneider, he initially worked for Daum Frères in Nancy before founding their own glassworks in Épinay-sur-Seine near Paris in 1913.

Their creations under the names Schneider and Le Verre Français gained international fame after 1923. By 1926, their workshop was the largest glass manufacturer in France, with around 500 employees.

Schneider’s work combines artisanal quality with the aesthetics of Art Nouveau and Art Deco. His brightly colored vases and lamps remain highly sought-after today.

The Wall Street Crash of 1929 marked the decline of the company. Production ceased in 1932, and bankruptcy followed in 1938.

Since the 1980s, Schneider glass has been rediscovered and is now considered on par with works by Émile Gallé and Daum.
