Table lamp by Muller Frères, Lunéville – Art Deco with pagoda shade
This signed Art Deco table lamp by Muller Frères of Lunéville is an outstanding example of French glass art from the 1920s. Its distinctive design, with a pagoda-shaped shade and a spherical, relief-decorated glass base, combines decorative elegance and technical sophistication.
Both the shade and base are made of satin-finished, etched glass and feature typical Art Deco ornaments, including a stylized peacock motif and a leaf motif that refracts the light in soft reflections.
A special feature of this lamp is its two-light construction: both the upper pagoda shade and the lower glass base are illuminated.
The signature "Muller Frères Lunéville" attests to the authenticity of the piece and refers to one of the most important French glass manufacturers of the Art Deco era.
About the Manufactory: Muller Frères - Masters of French Glass Art
The Muller Frères manufactory was founded around 1895 in Lunéville (Lorraine) and is considered – alongside Daum and Gallé – one of the most important representatives of the École de Nancy. The Muller brothers combined traditional glassblowing skills with innovative design language. Production continued until 1936.
After a period of floral Art Nouveau, their style evolved in the 1920s toward the geometric and elegant Art Deco style, characterized by clean lines and stylized natural motifs. Their signed lamps, vases, and bowls are among the most sought-after collectibles of French glass art today.
This table lamp with a pagoda shade and peacock motif – at ART FLAGEY Berlin – is exemplary of the Muller Frères oeuvre: it combines technical precision, artistic symbolism, and the unmistakable lightness of French design.
