Description

Art Deco table lamp with a double lampshade by Muller Frères.

This exquisite table lamp by Muller Frères Lunéville is a striking example of French glass art from the 1920s.

The slender wrought iron base is adorned with a delicate floral rose decoration and supports a double lampshade made of satin-finished glass. The lamp stands at an impressive height of 60 cm.

The glass shades are original and signed "Muller Frères Luneville" on the rim – a mark of authenticity for connoisseurs.

About the manufacturer:

Henri Muller (1868–1940) was one of the leading figures of the famous glass manufacturer "Muller Frères" in Lunéville, Lorraine (France). Together with his brothers – including Eugène, Désiré, Pierre, and Victor – he founded the glass decoration workshop in 1895 in the style of the "École de Nancy."

In the early days, the family often worked behind the scenes for other manufacturers – including the famous Émile Gallé. Many of the Muller brothers had previously trained or worked with Gallé, which strongly influenced their stylistic development.

After Gallé's death in 1904, the Mullers began operating under their own name. In the following years, their manufactory, "Muller Frères," became one of the most important representatives of French glass art – initially in the Art Nouveau style, later in the Art Deco style.

Between 1895 and 1936, he created artistic glass objects, particularly lamps, vases, and bowls. Henri Muller was not only a craftsman but also an artist. The works of his studio are today ranked alongside those of Gallé, Daum, Schneider, and Lalique. Particularly appreciated is the creative diversity and technical sophistication with which the Muller brothers pushed the boundaries of what was possible in glass design at the time.

The works are characterized by intricate techniques such as etching, engraving, and cutting – each piece is unique. Henri Muller and the Muller Frères stand for the highest quality, art-historical significance, and authentic craftsmanship. Signed objects from this manufactory – like this table lamp – are not merely decorative, but a true cultural heritage of French glass art.
