Rosenthal Artist Plate Sandro Chia, 1988
Rosenthal studio-line, limited edition. Signed and inscribed in three languages: "Art pierces the hearts of kings and makes donkeys fly."
Rosenthal Artist Plate No. 24 by Sandro Chia was released as part of Rosenthal's limited artist edition. With vibrant colors and expressive imagery, the plate captures the characteristic elements of Chia's art on porcelain: dynamic figures, bold contrasts, and a painterly and poetic expression. The result is a fusion of myth, history, and individual imagery. It thus represents the central idea of the transavant-garde—the return to the figure and emotion in painting.
About the artist: Sandro Chia (*1946 Florence)
Sandro Chia is one of the most important representatives of the Italian transavant-garde. After studying at the Accademia di Belle Arti in Florence, he initially turned to conceptual and performance art before returning to painting in the late 1970s. He made an international name for himself with expressive gestures, intense colors, and a blend of classical quotations and modern figuration.
His work encompasses painting, sculpture, and graphic art. His work is characterized by powerful, heroic figures, mythological references, and a vibrant play of color. Chia is one of the key figures of the Neo-Expressionist movement in Italy.
