About the Manufactory: Saglier Frères & Cie
Victor Saglier (1809–1894) founded the Parisian silversmith family in the 1890s at 12 rue d'Enghien in Paris; his brothers Eugène and André Saglier continued the company as Saglier Frères. The goldsmiths used a cigar cartridge with a sailboat between the letters V and S as their signature.
The workshop supplied renowned Parisian houses. Saglier's work is characterized by high-quality silver plating, floral and geometric decorations, and a balance between ornament and function.
The Jardinière is a fine example of the elegant French dining culture of the period and documents the artistic quality of Saglier Frères' silversmithing. Of particular interest to collectors are the legible hallmarks and the good, original condition of the silver plating and the mirror. The hallmarks S.F. (Saglier Frères) and V.S. (Victor Saglier) confirms the workshop affiliation. The marked number 25 increases consistency in catalog comparisons.
