Silver Mocha Spoon Set, Copenhagen - in Case
A fine set of six solid silver mocha spoons, each hallmarked with the Copenhagen city mark and dated 1907, 1908, 1910, 1926. The spoons are presented in the original case by the jeweler and goldsmith V. Holmstrup, which underscores the ensemble's elegant character. The gilt bowls contrast effectively with the finely chased handles.
The decoration features stylized floral motifs, typical of Nordic Art Nouveau—also known in Denmark as "Skønvirke." This movement, related to the Wiener Werkstätte and English Arts and Crafts, combined traditional craftsmanship with a new, modern design language. Characteristic features include flowing lines, three-dimensional relief, and balanced ornamentation inspired by nature.
The outstanding craftsmanship and harmonious overall design make this set a particularly beautiful example of Danish silversmithing. It impressively documents the high design level of Nordic craftsmanship around 1900 and reflects the ambition of the Skønvirke movement to elevate everyday objects to works of art of elegance.
