Art Nouveau Bowl by A.G. Dufva, Stockholm 1906
A fine Art Nouveau bowl made of silver-plated alpaca metal, produced by the renowned silversmith A.G. Dufva in Stockholm in 1906. The hallmarks confirm its origin and date.
The elegant body features an openwork, ornamentally pierced design with floral motifs. The decoration of stylized, fan-shaped leaves is reminiscent of the ginkgo motif, which was popular in Nordic Art Nouveau as a symbol of nature and renewal.
The organically shaped handles on both sides echo the floral decoration and lend the bowl a harmonious lightness. The fine silver plating on alpaca enhances the delicate play of light and the elegant luster of the piece.
With its elegant decoration, delicate openwork technique, and harmonious interplay of forms, this bowl is a beautiful example of the craftsmanship and aesthetics of Stockholm silversmithing around 1900.
