Silver Cafetière from the Brussels Manufactory Altenloh
An exceptionally finely crafted cafetière in the Directoire style, made by the renowned Brussels manufactory Altenloh. The body is made of 950 silver and rests on a slightly flared, chased round base.
The spout, shaped like a stylized bird, is particularly noteworthy, its delicate engravings showcasing the silversmith's exceptional skill. The ebonized wood handle provides an elegant contrast to the luster of the silver, lending the pot a balanced and harmonious silhouette.
The lid features a finely sculpted bud finial, while a continuous leaf and pearl decoration adorns the upper rim. The cafetière is numbered and stamped with the Altenloh Bruxelles hallmark and the 950 fineness mark.
About the Altenloh Manufactory:
Altenloh, along with Wolfers and Leyzen, is one of Belgium's most important historical jewelers.
Its origins date back to 1832, when Edward Altenloh began his goldsmithing career.
In 1878, his son Ernest founded the "Altenloh Jewelry and Goldsmithing Company," which gained international recognition for its exceptional quality. Ernest Altenloh received the Grand Prix at the 1910 Brussels World's Fair.
Under Robert, Yvan, and later Jacques Altenloh, the company became a key supplier to the Belgian Royal Family. In 2021, the brand was revived with a new team—as a symbol of the enduring tradition of Belgian goldsmithing and silversmithing.
