About David Guéron and the DEGUÉ Brand
The Degué brand traces its origins back to the entrepreneur and designer David Guéron (1892–1950). He is among the most renowned manufacturers of high-quality glass objects in the Art Deco period and the 1930s.
Artistic Glass in French Art Deco
David Guéron initially founded a manufactory in Compiègne, but later relocated it to Paris. There, he established the "Degué" brand, which is derived from the initial letters of his name, D (phonetically = De) and G (phonetically = Gue).
Under this brand name, Guéron produced vases, bowls, lamps, and wall hangings until the outbreak of World War II, all distinguished by their artistic design. Guéron's work was considered on par with that of other important glass manufacturers such as Daum, Müller Frères, Charles Schneider, and René Lalique.
Guéron's designs placed him in direct competition with the Schneider workshops ("Le Verre Français"). Despite legal disputes with Schneider, Degué successfully established himself in the market. In 1925, he participated in the legendary Exposition Internationale des Arts Décoratifs et Industriels Modernes in Paris, which gave its name to "Art Deco."
In 1939, David Guéron left France.
