The silversmiths' workshop was founded in Porto in 1874 by José Manuel Ferreira Marques.
After his death, his sons Gabriel and Silvestre Ferreira Marques took over the management of the company. In 1934, they introduced the Topázio brand. They have chosen the name after topaz, whch was their mother's favorite stone.
The manufacture of objects in pure silver – sterling silver or Portuguese silver – was followed, in the 1950s, by pieces combining silver and crystal. In the 1970s, Topázio produced its first high-quality silver-plated objects.
At ART FLAGEY you will find a particularly beautiful example from this era of Topázio: a crystal decanter with a handle and a hinged lid, in the Art Nouveau style.
