About the manufacturer Hutschenreuther Selb

Hutschenreuther – Department of Art

Founded in 1917, the Department of Art established Hutschenreuther as one of Germany’s leading porcelain manufacturers. During the 1920s, numerous unique pieces by renowned artists were created here.

Lorenz Hutschenreuther AG, Selb

On August 10, 1857, Lorenz Christian Friedrich Hutschenreuther (1817–1886) founded his porcelain manufactory in Selb, Bavaria. His father, Carolus Magnus Hutschenreuther, had already established the C. M. Hutschenreuther AG in Hohenberg. In 1902, under the leadership of his successors, the porcelain factories were reorganized into the Lorenz Hutschenreuther AG, Selb.

"Department of Art"

In 1917, the prestigious "Department of Art" was established, positioning the company firmly within the luxury and fine arts markets. Artistic direction was entrusted to Professor Fritz Klee, who simultaneously served as the head of the Royal Technical College in Selb.

During the 1920s, high-quality unique pieces were produced, including magnificent vases featuring historical and Art Deco motifs. By the time of its closure in 1945—necessitated by the war—more than 2,000 designs by over 75 porcelain painters had been brought to life.

Currently available at ART FLAGEY:
