Description

Post-impressionistic nude painting by the Belgian painter André Cluysenaar.

André Cluysenaar

André Cluysenaar (31 May 1872 Saint-Gilles/Brussels - 7 April 1939 Uccle/Brussels) became known mainly for his portraits.

He was influenced by the work of his father, Alfred Cluysenaar, and his teacher François Joseph Navez, but also by Alfred Stevens. His clients were the royal family in Belgium and London as well as the respective upper class.

His late work is characterized by paintings that show a person against an impressionistic background. Lively sketchy landscapes, nudes, still lifes and intimate scenes are among his subjects.
