Armand-Adrien-Marie (Armand) Apol was a Belgian painter, etcher and lithographer of post-impressionism. From 1891 to 1901 he studied at the Art Academy in Brussels, among others under Constant Montald. In 1901 he became a member of the artists' association Le Sillon. Apol painted landscapes, especially winter landscapes, picturesque neighborhoods and seascapes in an impressionist-realistic style. He was inspired by old cities such as Bruges and Mechelen, creeks, rivers along the North Sea beach, the Belgian port cities, fishing boats and the people in ports. After a difficult start, Apol quickly became a commercially successful artist. He was supported by exhibitions in salons (including in 1907 in Ostend and Brussels) and by solo exhibitions.
