Igor Tcholaria

Igor Tcholaria (*11 September 1959 Ochamchiri, Abkhazia, Georgia) graduated from the Sukhumi School of Art in 1976 with success. This was followed by an art study at the St. Petersburg's Mukhin Institute.

With the beginning of the Gorbachev Perestroika he was noticed by European galleries and collectors. He has exhibited worldwide and has worked closely with well-known art galleries in Italy, Belgium, England and the Netherlands.

Igor Tcholaria is heavily inspired by the French Impressionists. He lives and works in St.-Petersburg and Belgium. He is Member of the Union of Artists of Russia and Honorary Member of the Russian Academy of Arts.

According to Tcholaria's own words, "... the biggest event of the year (during his childhood) was when the Moscow Circus came to town. The animals, clowns in their vibrant costumes, and agile acrobats fired my imagination and became favorite characters of many of my paintings."
