Expressionist Landscape Painting, Belgian School (Brussels)
A colorful, expressionist cityscape from the Belgian School of Brussels, signed with the stylized monogram "AS".
The oilpainting features strong brushwork, contrasting areas of color, simplified forms, and a flat compositional style.
The painting's technique and style appear free and gestural, with a partly abstract perspective—and stylistically point to the post-World War II Belgian art scene, such as the later "Sint-Martens-Latem School". The work probably dates from the 1950s to the 1970s. The magnificent wooden stretcher could indicate an earlier creation (circa 1920-1940).
