Orientalist landscape painting by Henri Duvieux
This finely executed orientalist landscape painting by Henri Duvieux shows an atmospheric view across the Bosphorus towards Istanbul, presumably in the early morning hours.
In the foreground, small boats rest on a sandy shore, while in the distance, the city's silhouette emerges with minarets, domes, and soft veils of light.
Duvieux captures the special atmosphere between water, sky, and architecture in his characteristic style—restrained in color, yet rich in depth and detail.
Duvieux's oil painting was probably created around 1880. A special piece of 19th-century Orientalist landscape painting for connoisseurs and collectors.
Condition: Clear colors and stable surface. Original, richly decorated frame preserved.
About the artist: Henri Duvieux (1855-1902)
Henri Duvieux was a French painter of the late 19th century. His work is associated with Orientalism as well as landscape and cityscape painting.
Between 1880 and 1895, Duvieux exhibited several times in the vicinity of the Paris Salon. He made his debut in 1880 with views of Venice and Constantinople, thus positioning himself early on within the context of the Orientalist movements of his time.
His subjects focused on seascapes and harbor scenes, on Istanbul, the Bosphorus, Venice, North Africa, and port cities of the Levant.
Stylistically, Duvieux combined realistic detail with a light-filled, sometimes Impressionist-influenced palette.
Works by Henri Duvieux appear occasionally today in the art market and at international auctions. Within the field of 19th-century Orientalist painting, they occupy a specialized collector's position.
