Cohr & Company - Fredericia - Denmark
The Danish silversmith Cohr & Company is one of the most traditional manufacturers of Scandinavian silverware. Founded in 1860 by Ditlev Cohr in Fredericia, the family business quickly developed into one of Denmark's leading manufacturers. In addition to solid silver, Cohr produced a wide range of high-quality silver-plated objects, which became internationally renowned under the ATLA product line.
In the first half of the 20th century, Cohr combined Scandinavian craftsmanship with a clear, modern understanding of design. Particularly from the 1930s to the 1950s, the workshop's designs were characterized by an elegant reduction of form, influenced by functionalism and Art Deco. The distinctive combination of geometric rigor and fine detailing—as seen in the relief-like, architectural designs of many ATLA pieces—gave the objects a timeless appeal.
The trademark “Cohr” and the hallmark “ATLA” still represent the fusion of Danish design, meticulous craftsmanship, and functional aesthetics. For over a century, Cohr & Company shaped the style of Danish table culture and remains a significant name in the history of Nordic silversmithing.
