The reputation of the products from the Sarrguemines faience factory is world-renowned among experts. The company was founded by Nicolas-Henri Jacobi in 1790, but soon had to give up due to the unfavorable economic situation at the time and competition from British and French manufacturers.

In 1800 the Bavarian Paul Utzschneider (1771-1844) took over the factory and, together with his son-in-law Alexandre de Geiger and his son, Paul de Geiger, brought it to the forefront of the faience industry. The industrial revolution was in full swing and ceramic products sold like hot cakes. In 1871, after Prussia's victory in Lorraine, Geiger retired to Paris. His son Paul continued the business.

During the Second World War, the company was put under receivership and Villeroy & Boch took over the management. In 1978 a French consortium took over the company. On January 9, 2007 the faience factory was liquidated.
