Fernand Toussaint (1873 Brussels 1956)
Fernand Toussaint was a renowned Belgian painter of the Belle Époque and early 20th century. He was trained at the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts in Brussels under the celebrated French painter Jean-François Portaels.
Toussaint gained recognition for his elegant portraits and refined floral still lifes, all marked by subtle color harmonies, graceful brushwork, and atmospheric composition. His portraits of women and vibrant flower paintings were especially admired by the Belgian bourgeoisie and collectors of decorative art.
He exhibited in Brussels, Paris, London, and Antwerp, earning several distinctions. As a member of the Société Nationale des Beaux-Arts, he contributed to shaping the Belgian art scene between Impressionism and Art Nouveau.
His works are held in numerous private collections and European museums today.
