Pierre Paulus (1881–1959)
Pierre Paulus de Châtelet was an important representative of Belgian Expressionism. Born in 1881 in Châtelet, he devoted his work primarily to depicting industrial life in Wallonia. His most famous symbol, the "coq hardi," still adorns the flag of Wallonia. In his prints and paintings, he addressed the social realities of the working class, thus becoming a defining voice of Walloon identity.
